Celestial Mechanics

Celestial Mechanics

2022
Digital photographs

A parade of coups d'œil.
12th century ebb.
If I was a flower, where would I be?

A laboratory of light.
Surreal fusion blasts;
Bearing witness to the ancient abyss.

I’m braiding water with hands made of fire.
Strands of entropy…
In my echo chamber of shapeshifters.

Celestial Mechanics is a series of still life photographs featuring artefacts, natural light, biotic materials, and fire. The term 'celestial mechanics' refers to a branch of astronomy that explores the motions of objects in outer space. By thoughtfully accumulating items from my surroundings over a 4 week period I was inadvertently creating an orbit of debris. I pulled from this ‘catalogue’ as I intuitively negotiated the compositions and relationships between artefacts, materials, and fire. Celestial Mechanics is an attempt to capture the existential hyper-curious qualities of physical transformation.

Created at the Château de La Napoule in the South of France.
