Make-Believe

Make-Believe

2016
Youth workshop series. 2016-18. Digital photographs and handwritten daydreams.
Curated by Shannon Bingeman.

Inner worlds of imagination are brought to life and revealed through a series of performative workshops for youth. Still life tableaux vivants are composed based on exercises I designed to access and ignite the depths of collective imagination. Writings made during these sessions debut as silent translations of reconstructed visions and daydreams of workshop participants. We capture glimpses into the curious landscape of our minds and share them as written accounts of imagined scenes that are used as instructions for composing photographs; thus fusing our creative processes. Each image we build is a collaborative invention and a celebration of the ability to make-believe. We work together to turn an imagined scene into a reality within an environment that supports artistic freedom, intuition, and fearless experimentation as we enter a world of fact and fiction and ask the question: “What makes us believe?”
